Dan Patterson, Chairman
Dan Patterson has founded, acquired, built, and sold many companies during his career, investing in both LBO and growth equity transactions. Highlights of his investments include the creation of a medically supervised rapid weight loss program, which achieved ranking on Inc. Magazine's list of fastest growing companies in 1988, and the acquisition, growth and subsequent sale of Texas Home Healthcare, at the time the largest home healthcare provider in the Southwest. In addition to serving as the Chairman of Patterson Thoma Family Office, he founded Transition Capital Partners in 1993 and has been active in more than 25 transactions since the firm's inception. Mr. Patterson earned a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree from Kenyon College and a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School. Mr. Patterson serves on the Board of Directors for many Transition Capital Partners portfolio and unaffiliated independent companies including Coordinated Home Health, Healthstop, Baskin's, Furniture Factory, GFRC, 1-800-Reconex, Planet Hospital and the National Arbor Day Foundation.
Andy Harvey, Managing Director
Mr. Harvey was born and raised in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He has spent his entire professional career working and investing in DFW. For 25 years, Mr. Harvey worked in sales, while managing and directing his own wholesale paper company, United Papers Inc. During his career with United Papers Inc., the company sold and serviced every major printer and newspaper in the Southwest. In 2006, he joined Transition Capital Partners, where he served as a valuable asset, finding deals and raising equity. With his successful and extensive association with Mr. Patterson, Mr. Harvey was promoted into the position of Managing Director for the Patterson Thoma Family Office in January, 2010. Mr. Harvey is a 1972 graduate of Oklahoma State University in the school of journalism.
Larry Mallery, Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Mallery brings over 20 years of financial experience in both public and private companies to Patterson Thoma Family Office. As Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Mallery handles the financial needs of the Patterson Thoma Family Office, evaluates deals, oversees due diligence, and monitors the performance of acquired portfolio companies. Prior to joining Patterson Thoma Family Office, Mr. Mallery started Acquisition Resale Company, a series corporation investing in distressed residential real estate in the DFW area. Mr. Mallery's professional experience includes roles as CFO of CESCO, Texas' largest electrical parts supplier, Sr. Director of Financial Planning & Analysis for Michael's Stores, Inc., and various financial management roles at Michael's Stores, Dal-Tile, Inc. and Taco John's International. Larry holds a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Wyoming and is a member of the AICPA.
Dave Chaplin, IT Operations Executive
Mr. Chaplin brings over 20 years of business experience in technology and software to Patterson Thoma Family Office. Mr. Chaplin heads an executive team providing strategic leadership to existing technology portfolio companies. He also evaluates potential investments for operational, technical and competitive advantages. Prior to joining Patterson Thoma Family Office, Dave was Founder and CEO of Engenium Corporation, a company focused on advanced conceptual search technology. Engenium was sold to Kroll Ontrack in 2006 and Mr. Chaplin served as Vice President of Advanced Search Technologies for Kroll until December 2009. Prior to founding Engenium, Mr. Chaplin was a Senior Manager at KPMG responsible for search and knowledge management technology. Dave holds a B.A. in Economics from Hartwick College.
Halina Grodd, Executive Assistant
Ms. Grodd provides administrative support to Patterson Thoma Family Office. Prior to joining Patterson Thoma Family Office, Ms. Grodd was employed with various international companies in Canada and Denmark working closely with the Foreign Investors Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Poland and other Eastern European countries. While in Europe, she was heavily involved in fundraising for international disasters, and also supervised and attained financing for sponsorship programs that found homes for orphaned children from war-torn, former communist countries while maintaining close communications with various foreign embassies personnel. In addition, for several years, Ms. Grodd taught logic and mathematics at both the collegiate and high school levels in Canada, the US and Europe.
Chris Dietemann, Chief Marketing Executive
Mr. Dietemann is a hands-on entrepreneur and professional manager with an established track record of helping start-up, and small to medium sized companies in the US and Europe to manage the transition from entrepreneurial to professional management. In 1987, Mr. Dietemann co-founded Lokring, a VC start-up which marketed a patented mechanical pipe joining system. Sales grew to $9.3 million in 1995, ranking three times on Inc. Magazine's list of fastest growing companies. Mr. Dietemann returned to Texas in 1997 to start-up a new Texas division for Hendry, a California based supplier of Telecom central office equipment. Mr. Dietemann has worked in both France and Spain, relocating in early 2006 to Malaga, Spain, to ramp-up production of nearly 1,000 units of a prototype Ink Refill Kiosk system for a major US office supply outlet chain. In 2007, Mr. Dietemann returned to Dallas to help put together a private equity buy-out of GFRC Cladding Systems, and joined the Company at Close. He has an engineering degree from Princeton, and an MBA from Harvard, is fluent in French with a working knowledge of German, and is a US/EEC dual national.
